1. Last Word: Making Memphis Easier, Strickland on Graceland and Construction Jobs -

Some of the BSMF reviews in from this past weekend are thumbs up for the way Memphis In May has ramped up what you might call its infrastructure around Uber, Lyft and little items like muddy boots for the increasing number of Memphians and visitors who are ready to go no matter what the weather is doing. And they may opt for some other way into Downtown beyond driving a car and finding a parking place and walking, especially when there’s a drop off at the northern end of the music festival. Even a fire hydrant water flow to take the mud off your boots. We can make Memphis easier with less effort than we think at the outset.

2. Shelby County Home Sales Up 19 Percent in 2012 -

Shelby County had the most home sales recorded in 2012 since 2008 when the housing market started drastically declining.

There were 14,946 home sales last year, up 19 percent from 12,600 unit sales during 2011, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com. And industry professionals say the outlook for 2013 is continued modest improvement.

3. MAAR Elects Board Members -

Members of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors elected six individuals to the 2013-2014 board of directors at its annual meeting and election Sept. 6.

They are: 2013 director/2014 vice president Patty Rainey of Crye-Leike Inc. Realtors; 2013-2014 directors Cassandra Bell-Warren of 4 Success Realty LLC, Allen Green of John Green & Co. Realtors, Joe Steffner of Grubb & Ellis/Memphis, and Hank Hogue of Crye-Leike; and 2013-2014 associate director Jason Gaia of Prudential Collins-Maury Inc.

4. August Home Sales up 21 Percent -

Home sales in August were up 21 percent year over year, representing the eighth consecutive monthly increase from 2011.

Shelby County saw 1,487 home sales last month compared to the 1,228 homes sold in August 2011, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

5. Circa Slated for Regalia Space -

Circa by John Bragg restaurant plans to open its East Memphis location at Regalia shopping center, Boyle Investment Co. recently announced.

6. UTHSC College of Medicine Names Smith Interim Dean -

J. Lacey Smith has been named interim dean for the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Smith currently serves as the associate dean of clinical affairs for the College of Medicine and the chief medical officer and executive vice president for UT Medical Group Inc.
