10. Shaffer Named Executive Director Of Rebranded BLDG Memphis -

John Paul Shaffer recently was named executive director of BLDG Memphis, the rebranded entity that brings the Community Development Council of Greater Memphis and Livable Mem-phis under a single organizational identity.
In his new role, Shaffer’s job is to guide the organization in its mission of supporting neighborhood revitalization through a network of organizations and individuals working in the community development space – which BLDG Memphis does primarily through organizational capacity building, community education and engagement, and public policy and advocacy – as well as to promote the new brand. 

11. Handful Of Music Festivals Set For August -

In March, one of James Sposto’s friends posted to his Facebook page a thought about being a musician in Memphis.

Daniel McKee, a bassist who’s done turns in a few different bands, lamented that he’s never had a chance to play at the Levitt Shell. Sposto, a digital media entrepreneur in Memphis, used that as a catalyst to start preparing for something he’d already had been thinking about making happen – putting on a show that celebrates and supports the local Memphis music he’s a fan of.

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. manufacturing grew more slowly in October, hampered by weaker demand for exports and slower production at factories.

But companies ordered more goods, factories slashed their stockpiles and auto sales rose. Those trends suggest manufacturing activity could rebound in coming months.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The nation's economy is managing to grow modestly, reports Monday showed, despite high U.S. unemployment and growing alarm about Europe's debt crisis.

Manufacturing expanded in September more than in August, though the pace of growth remains weak, according to a survey by the Institute for Supply Management. The ISM said its manufacturing index rose for the first time in three months.

16. Children's Museum Hosts Golf Tournament Today -

The Children's Museum of Memphis (CMOM) hosts the fourth annual CMOM Golf Tournament to benefit the "Yes, EVERY Child!" program at 11:30 a.m. at Memphis Country Club, 3034 Southern Ave. The Yes, EVERY Child! program provides free CMOM admission for less fortunate families. Lunch will be provided starting at 11:30 a.m., and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Golfers will play in teams of four for $300 a person.
