It’s not a done deal yet. But there is at least the framework of a plan for the city’s tallest building. The city has signed a letter of intent with the current owners to convert the 100 North Main Building to a convention center hotel with retail, meeting space and a parking garage with a timeline to have this built and open for business by the end of 2022 – two years after the $175 million renovation of the Memphis Cook Convention Center is to be completed.

Railgarten goes back to the City Council Tuesday for at least a committee discussion in which the council considers whether it should take back the special use permit it granted the bar-restaurant. This is a follow up to the Board of Adjustment decision last month to delay any action on approving the other annexes of the business for 30 days.

Dedicated bicycle lanes on Madison Avenue between McNeil and Cooper streets should be painted and ready for two-wheeled traffic by Thanksgiving.
City road crews are about ready to begin repaving the stretch of Madison Avenue. And as the new pavement is put down, the new configuration of car and bike lanes and on-street parking will follow rapidly, said Kyle Wagenschutz, the city’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator.

More than 60 business owners along the Midtown leg of Madison Avenue are coalescing around the idea of something other than a dedicated bicycle lane in both directions on the street.
Their idea is that bicycles and motorized traffic should continue sharing the curb lane in both directions with no new lane markings. That would keep two lanes of motorized traffic both ways.
