5. Guide Aids Offenders On Return to Society -

When a long stretch of traveling has to be done, especially if the journey is a difficult one, a travel guide often goes hand in hand with the journey.

With that in mind, a group of attorneys who got involved with the Memphis Bar Association’s Leadership Forum have spearheaded the creation of such a guide that lists available resources for the benefit of offenders upon their release from prison.

The Memphis College of Art has filed a $2.2 million permit with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to renovate its newly acquired 49,025-square-foot building at 477 S. Main St. in the South Main Historic Arts District, where the college will house its graduate school.

Virginia Weaver has been appointed medical director of the Saint Francis Center for Surgical Weight Loss.

8. Pogue to Lead Public Affairs For Local Corps of Engineers -

Jim Pogue has been selected chief of the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District.

Pogue has worked for the Corps of Engineers for more than 19 years in public affairs positions. Pogue will be responsible for managing the Memphis District’s public information, internal communications and community relations programs.

9. Rowland Rises to Vice Chancellor Post at UTHSC -

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has appointed Steve Rowland as assistant vice chancellor for business. He is responsible for overseeing and administering the Business Services Unit and auxiliary services such as printing, mail services and student housing. Rowland holds a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) designation from the Institute for Supply Management.

10. FBI Special Agent Harrison Named PRSA Communicator of the Year -

My Harrison has been named the 2006 PRSA Communicator of the Year by the Memphis chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She is a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in charge of the Memphis field office. Since her arrival in Memphis two years ago, she has supervised a number of high-profile federal investigations, including "Operation Tennessee Waltz," "Operation Tarnished Blue" and "Operation Main Street Sweeper."
