The Greater Memphis Chamber has announced its official 2017 Young Memphians list, which will be featured in the summer issue of Memphis Crossroads Magazine.

Nominations for the Young Memphians award were submitted via the chamber’s website, social media outlets and email. All nominees must be under 40 and a member of the Greater Memphis Chamber.

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority has announced Michael Fulton will assume the role of government affairs director, where he will be responsible for managing the governmental affairs functions for the airport, maintaining relationships with government officials or their key staff and providing oversight of local, state and federal initiatives.

The Pilot Rocky Top League returns for its eighth year starting June 15 and should feature 11 players who will be on the University of Tennessee’s roster in 2015-16.

9. Experts to Begin Investigating Plant Explosion -

TOONE, Tenn. (AP) – A response team is expected to begin investigating an explosion at a manufacturing plant in western Tennessee that injured an employee.

Media report a team of chemists, engineers and bomb technicians assembled by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms was expected to begin its probe on Monday morning.

10. Grading of Union City Section of I-69 Nearly Done -

UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) – The first construction phase of a section of Interstate 69 in northwest Tennessee is ahead of schedule, but funds for the second phase are being held up.

The local section of I-69 begins on the Kentucky border at South Fulton and mostly follows U.S. 51 through the Reelfoot Lake region on toward Dyersburg.

13. Mueller Copper Tube To Lay Off 37 Workers -

A company official said Mueller Industries has cut its work force by 12 percent, reducing the number of workers at a Fulton, Miss., plant by 37.

Michael Simmerman, the plant manager of Mueller Copper Tube, said the company cut employees at its Fulton location Monday. The company employs 270 people.

14. Attention Shifts From Health Care To Consumer Protection -

Tennessee’s Robert Cooper Jr., along with 24 other state attorneys general, signed a letter a few days ago to U.S. congressional leaders supporting the creation of a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
