Susan Schwartz and Mary Allison Cates have watched their impromptu idea of owning a sewing boutique transform from a margarita-inspired dinner at Las Delicias to the culmination of Sew Memphis opening its doors in the Cooper-Young neighborhood at 688 S. Cox St. last week.

9. Memphis Pride Signs Lease At Trinity Ridge -

An up-and-coming Mid-South cheer and tumbling company has signed a new lease to expand its business, a move that will benefit the facility’s students and parents alike.

Memphis Pride is relocating from a 5,000-square-foot space in Cordova Industrial Park to 16,080-square-foot lease at 7740 B Trinity Road, suite 126.

10. Black Equip. Supply Grows Memphis Presence -

Black Equipment Supply is relocating its Memphis presence to a space that nearly doubles the size of the firm’s former location.

The company will vacate its 14,000-square-foot space off Cherry Road and has signed a 25,372-square-foot lease at Shelby Air Park, 4570 Shelby Air Drive, suite 8.

13. Jones Receives Welcome Home Memphis Designation -

Crye-Leike affiliate broker C. Lauren Jones was the first Realtor in the Memphis market to receive the Welcome Home Memphis designation when she recently earned the honor.

The designation recently was created by the Memphis Area Association of Realtors and is designed to increase affordable housing expertise.

14. Brooks Named VP of Junior Achievement -

Mary Brooks has been named vice president of programs for Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South Inc. Previously, Brooks served as the director of programs for Junior Achievement. In her new position, she will oversee the operation of Exchange City, Junior Achievement's model city, which is operated for a day by area fifth-graders.

15. Tuttle Elected to State Judicial Selection Commission -

Dale H. Tuttle of Glassman, Edwards, Wade & Wyatt PC has been elected 2006 vice chairman of the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission. The commission interviews and recommends applicants for all state courts.
