3. At All-Star Break, Grizzlies’ Reality Not What Anyone Envisioned -

The start of training camp was less than 24 hours away. With seven straight playoff appearances behind them, the Grizzlies had a track record of substance. True, they would be without half of the Core Four, Zach Randolph and Tony Allen having been allowed to walk and sign elsewhere.

Check out what else should be on your radar in The Week Ahead...

10. Grizzlies Top Clippers 115-112 Before Starting Five-Game West Coast Trip -

To finally reach double-digits wins, the Memphis Grizzlies had to put up a season-high 115 points and hang on at the end after a 16-point fourth-quarter lead melted down to three points.

But the Grizzlies managed to pull it off, beating the Los Angeles Clippers 115-112 on Saturday, Dec. 23, at FedExForum.

11. Grizzlies' Andrew Harrison Again Contributing -

There is really no replacing starting point guard Mike Conley. That much is obvious for a Grizzlies team on a three-game losing streak and that has lost 14 of its last 15 games.

While Tyreke Evans has made a pretty good transition from off-the-bench scoring machine to starting and often running the team, another guard also has seen a change in duties.

12. Grizzlies Drop Ninth Straight, Conley Out 2-3 More Weeks -

The Memphis Grizzlies’ first game after the firing of coach David Fizdale brought the same result as the previous eight: a loss, this time 104-95 at San Antonio on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Center Marc Gasol, who was in the middle of the Fizdale firestorm because the coach was dismissed less than 24 hours after Gasol had been benched for the fourth quarter vs. Brooklyn and then voiced his displeasure, scored 10 points with seven assists and six rebounds vs. the Spurs. Gasol (3,732) also passed Zach Randolph as the franchise’s all-time leader in made field goals.

13. Grizzlies Reeling, Lose Fifth Straight to Portland -

The Grizzlies’ fifth straight loss, and their eighth in the last 10 games, had its share of ugliness. Being outrebounded by Portland 60-35 was ugly. Shooting 38.4 percent and 26.7 percent from 3-point range (8 of 30) was hardly a thing of beauty.

14. Timekeeper -

A minute here. A minute there. Just 14 games into the Grizzlies’ 82-game regular season trek, coach David Fizdale is already trying to steal time, to manage minutes, and, yes, trying to make the best calculated decisions he can when weighing the chance to win a game today vs. the potential tax that might be assessed tomorrow.

15. The Grizzlies’ $3.3 Million Steal, Tyreke Evans, Playing Toward a Payday -

The Grizzlies didn’t quite score enough points in losing 110-103 in Milwaukee to finish 2-3 on a five-game road stretch. But not because Tyreke Evans didn’t try to carry the Grizzlies to victory yet again.

16. Bench Power -

Through games of Nov. 7, the Memphis Grizzlies were 7-4. You probably knew that. You recall the thrill of taking down the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors at FedExForum and beating the much-hyped Houston Rockets twice – on the road and at home.

17. After Hot Start, Grizzlies Show Cracks In Foundation -

As calculated decisions go, it seemed like a good one. Probably, it was a smart decision despite the unhappy result.

With the Grizzlies wrapping up a homestand, coach David Fizdale determined the last game against the Orlando Magic was an opportune time to get point guard Mike Conley and his sore Achilles a little extra rest before starting a five-game road trip.

18. Goodin Joins Hagwood Adelman As Memphis Managing Attorney -

Michael T. Goodin has joined Hagwood Adelman Tipton PC as managing attorney of the Memphis office. In that role, he provides legal services to HAT’s clients in matters such as medical malpractice and senior housing litigation for health care providers along the continuum of care, including skilled nursing, assisted living, behavioral health, home health and hospice litigation. In addition, he assists in supervising the attorney and paraprofessional teams.

19. Last Word: Paying the Piper, Sewer Regrets and The New Incumbent's Strategy -

Grizzlies over the Rockets 98-90 after being down 12 on the road in Houston. There is just something in the Memphis sports ethos that happens at halftime or between quarters. The Grizz are 3-0 in this young season. And for the second consecutive game some extracurricular action on the court. Mario Chalmers of the Grizz and James Harden of the Rockets scuffled after Chalmers got floored by Harden after Harden got swarmed by him and James Ennis. Harden got the foul and he and Chalmers each got a technical for what followed.

20. Grizzlies Run Past Golden State, 111-101 -

When it was done, when the Memphis Grizzlies had defeated the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors 111-101 Saturday night at FedExForum, and Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant had been ejected, there was a lot of explaining to do.

21. Dillon Brooks Injects Hope, Excitement into Grizzlies’ Season -

The rookie admitted there was at least a moment of concern. Dillon Brooks would score 19 points with five rebounds, four steals, mostly look like he had been playing in the NBA for about 10 years, and his team would win on opening night.

22. Roster Moves Show Grizzlies Know They Can’t Put Tomorrow Ahead of Today -

From the time training camp opened this year, forward Jarell Martin was considered likely to be left on the outside looking in when the Grizzlies made their final roster cuts. Martin was a first-round selection in the 2015 NBA Draft, but speculation was he would be competing with young Deyonta Davis, a second-round pick in 2016, for the last roster slot on the front line. And because Davis was just 20 and considered raw but with much potential, Martin would lose out.

23. Report: Grizzlies Roster Won't Include Baldwin, Zagorac -

Former Vanderbilt guard Wade Baldwin, who was the Memphis Grizzlies’ first-round pick and the 17th overall player selected in the 2016 NBA Draft, will not make the team, league sources told ESPN. In addition to the team’s plan to waive Baldwin, they apparently will do the same with forward Rade Zagorac, a second-round choice (35th overall) in the 2016 NBA Draft.

24. Turning The Page -

The Memphis Grizzlies still cling to their old grit-and-grind identity – at least for marketing purposes and perhaps a subconscious need for comfort and security. But they also decided now was the time they had to initiate transformative change.

25. Last Word: The Amazon Offer, Mario Chalmers, The New Symphony Conductor -

If you want to figure out the rhythm of Downtown there are a couple of time-honored indicators. One of my favorites is the church bells. The bell at Calvary Episcopal Church rang 60 times Tuesday for all of the lives lost in the Las Vegas massacre including that of the shooter. Old tones for new mourning as the seasons change in our city by the river.

26. A Positive First Step For Grizzlies’ Mario Chalmers -

Veteran point guard Mario Chalmers is on a partially guaranteed contract and that means what it sounds like it means. The Grizzlies wanted to give Chalmers, 31, a long look, but coming off surgery for an Achilles injury they didn’t believe it was automatic he would be ready to serve as Mike Conley’s backup as he did two seasons ago.

27. Will Grizzlies Have A Leg to Stand On? -

David Fizdale was eloquent as he again stated the city of Memphis should remove its Confederate statues. Chris Wallace appeared to have lost weight, an executive expression that this team will be ready for training camp in a few weeks.

28. AutoZone Park Hosting ‘Grit Grind Night’ Aug. 30 -

The Memphis Redbirds and Memphis Grizzlies are coming together for “Grit Grind Night” on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at AutoZone Park. Grizzlies players Tyreke Evans and Mario Chalmers are scheduled to sign autographs and throw first pitches, and the first 2,000 fans when gates open at 5:30 receive a dual schedule magnet featuring both the 2017-18 Grizzlies schedule and the 2018 Redbirds schedule.

29. Grizzlies, Redbirds Team Up Aug. 30 at AutoZone Park -

The Memphis Redbirds and Memphis Grizzlies will come together for “Grit Grind Night” at AutoZone Park on Wednesday, Aug. 30, as the Redbirds host the Iowa Cubs.

Grizzlies offseason free agent additions Tyreke Evans, who played college basketball at the University of Memphis, and Mario Chalmers are scheduled to be in attendance to sign autographs and throw out ceremonial first pitches. They are slated to be joined by Grizz, as well as Grizzlies entertainment groups Grizz Girls, Grizzline, Grannies & Grandpas, and Claw Crew.

31. Last Word: Freeze Warning, Corker on Obamacare Repeal and The Disney Example -

What do you call it when you expect a lot of trouble coming from a specific direction – with a detailed roadmap -- and a completely different controversy comes in from a different direction, hits and leaves a crater. Whatever you call it, that is what happened to Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze Thursday evening. Or did it?

32. Grizzlies Paradox: Get Younger, Get Older, Stay Relevant -

The Memphis Grizzlies continue to walk dual trails. It is what they must do, even if such hedging threatens to constrain both their immediate and long-range future.

We learned this week that 31-year-old point guard Mario Chalmers is returning to the Grizzlies on a partially guaranteed one-year contract. Two seasons ago, Chalmers was an impactful backup for Mike Conley until a ruptured Achilles tendon ended his season.

33. Last Word: Closing the Door, Midtown Rents and Red West's Many Roles -

It didn’t take the Shelby County Commission very long Wednesday to close the door on its budget season – about 20 minutes in the day’s special meeting to approve a county property tax rate of $4.11 on third and final reading. That’s not a quick up or down vote. And it took just a bit longer because there is still some discussion about whether this was a reduction in the tax rate or a tax cut in the sense that a homeowner in Shelby County would understand the term.

34. Stanley Cup Run Makes State Sports History List -

Time and again during the recent Stanley Cup Final, people asked the rhetorical question: Is this the greatest moment in Nashville sports history?

Let the debate continue. But let’s take it a step further: Was this the greatest moment in the state’s sports history?

35. The Press Box: Grizzlies Without Conley a Cut Below -

The numbers tell a dispiriting story. When the Grizzlies play basketball without the services of starting point guard Mike Conley, they lose more often than they win.

36. Conley Injures Back in Grizzlies’ Lopsided Loss to Charlotte -

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley could miss six weeks after sustaining a back injury in Monday’s 105-84 loss to the Charlotte Hornets at FedExForum.

Near press time, Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo! Sports reported that Conley had suffered a transverse process fracture of the vertebrae and  would be out indefinitely.

37. More Rest for Gasol, Conley Means More Minutes for Young Grizzlies -

Five games into their season, the Memphis Grizzlies have provided a small sample size that is simultaneously encouraging, confounding and still mildly concerning.

Through games of Wednesday, Nov. 2, the Grizzlies were 3-2. Nothing wrong with that record given the team has a new coach in David Fizdale, is employing a new style of offense, and has new starters and rookies in the rotation. Yet they also needed overtime – at home – to dispatch the Washington Wizards (0-3) and the New Orleans Pelicans (0-5).

38. Fiz & Grizz Look Like Good Fit, But New Coach Will Need Players -

When the Memphis Grizzlies fired Dave Joerger after three seasons, the public reaction from players was, well, non-existent.

No fond farewells via Twitter from Marc Gasol or Mike Conley. And certainly not from Zach Randolph and Tony Allen.

39. Dave Joerger: The NBA’s Invisible Man -

Congratulations to Golden State’s Steve Kerr. You can’t say he wasn’t a worthy recipient for NBA Coach of the Year.

40. Grizzlies' Season Ends with Heart and Tears -

Game 4 of this miserable first-round playoff sweep at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs was almost done. Only a few minutes of garbage time remained.

And the question from Dave Joerger to veterans Matt Barnes and Vince Carter was a simple one: Do you want to stay out there, to keep playing, and to end this thing with your boots on?

41. Grizzlies Hope to Grind Out a Playoff Win at Home -

April 22, 2004. The Memphis Grizzlies’ first home playoff game in franchise history at The Pointed House now known as Bass Pro Shops.

Hubie Brown was the Grizzlies coach then, and the NBA’s Coach of the Year for overseeing a 50-win season. The Gasol on the team was Pau and Bonzi Wells was the more controlled forerunner to Lance “Born Ready” Stephenson.

42. Memphis Takes Pounding in Opener With Spurs -

The Memphis Grizzlies were not alone in their unmitigated defeat. The NBA Playoffs started this past weekend and while descriptions of what happened to the Grizzlies within the shadow of the Alamo in San Antonio were colorful – “a 106-74 bludgeoning by the San Antonio Spurs” read one account at NBA.com – this was hardly an isolated incident.

43. Grizz Guard Mike Conley Reportedly Out for Season -

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley most likely will not return to the court this season, sources told ESPN’s Marc Stein.

44. Grizzlies' Mike Conley Reportedly Done for the Season -

45. Born Ready? Grizz Players, Brass Given No Choice -

This is not a Grizzlies season to remember. It is a Grizzlies season impossible to forget.

For fans.

For Chris Wallace, who is living the life of “GM, The Bargain Hunter.”

46. Randolph gets first triple-double in a stunning win over Clippers -

Mike Conley and his sore Achilles were in street clothes on the bench. Zach Randolph, after missing seven straight games with a sore knee, was back in uniform and playing. And playing so well that late in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies 113-102 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, March 19 at FedExForum, Conley had a secret to share.

47. Grizzlies Waive Chalmers, Could Re-Sign Him Later -

After learning that backup point guard Mario Chalmers had indeed ruptured his Achilles tendon the Memphis Grizzlies waived him to create another roster spot; they are signing D-League guard Briante Weber to a 10-day contract and have interest in finding another point guard (Mike Conley remains sidelined with a sore foot).

48. Stephenson Leads Grizzlies to 121-114 OT Win Over Pelicans -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Lance Stephenson scored a career-high 33 points, Matt Barnes recorded a triple-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, and the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 121-114 in overtime Friday night.

49. Grizzlies Waive Chalmers, Could Re-Sign Him in Offseason -

50. Grizz in Full-On Survival Mode Now -

Starting point guard Mike Conley remains out with a sore foot. His backup, Mario Chalmers, may have ruptured his Achilles. Chalmers left the locker room in Boston on Wednesday night, March 9, in a wheelchair. In context, perhaps so did the rest of the Grizzlies’ season.

51. Allen Leads Depleted Grizzlies Past Cleveland -

So what’s the real explanation for the Grizzlies’ stunning 106-103 victory over LeBron James and the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers? You know, given that they played without (long list here): Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, Matt Barnes, Brandan Wright and Chris Andersen?

52. Grit and Grind in Cleveland: With 26 Points from Tony Allen, Undermanned Grizz Beat Cavs 106-103 -

53. Grizzlies Re-Sign Center Ryan Hollins -

The Memphis Grizzlies, in an effort to bolster their ailing front line, have re-signed veteran center Ryan Hollins through the rest of the season.

54. Memphis Grizzlies Waive Forward James Ennis -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Memphis Grizzlies have waived forward James Ennis.

Memphis had acquired the 25-year-old Ennis along with guard Mario Chalmers from the Miami Heat on Nov. 10 in exchange for guard Beno Udrih and forward Jarnell Stokes. Ennis has averaged 1.2 points and 3.6 minutes in 13 games this season with the Heat and Grizzlies.

55. Life Without Marc? Yes, and Grizz Still Have Something to Play For -

In their first game after learning their franchise player had fractured his right foot and would be lost to the team indefinitely – and yes, perhaps for the rest of the season – the Grizzlies reacted just the way that was needed: They went out to Brooklyn and demolished the hapless Nets before starting their All-Star break.

56. 8 Games Behind Where They Were Last Year, Grizz Need Z-Bo More Than Ever -

You can’t say the sports gods don’t have a sense of humor. On Jan. 12, 2015, the Grizzlies made a three-way trade with Boston and New Orleans that sent away the team’s designated whipping boy with fans (Tayshaun Prince) and the pouty Quincy Pondexter and brought in the athletic, the dynamic, the difference-making, Jeff Green.

57. Grizzlies Notebook: Zach Randolph Still Mr. Double-Double, Even Off the Bench -

Ever since Memphis coach Dave Joerger decided to have power forward Zach Randolph play off the bench, he has been Mr. Team First and Mr. Positive Attitude.

He also is still capable of being Mr. Double-Double.

58. Gasol, Barnes Lead Grizzlies Past Pacers 96-84 -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Even as the Memphis Grizzlies transition into a small-ball style team, they realize defense is still the key to their success.

Memphis forced Indiana into 17 turnovers and 39 percent shooting in a 96-84 victory over the Pacers on Saturday night.

59. Going Small, Grizzlies Score Big Against Wizards -

Before the game, Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger confirmed the lineup change that moved power forward Zach Randolph and swingman Tony Allen to the bench and installed forward Matt Barnes and guard Courtney Lee as starters – and left forward Jeff Green as a starter – wasn’t just a one-time whim while in Miami.

60. 22 Sports Blessings Worth Giving Thanks For -

Counting the blessings and giving sporting thanks for:

• John Calipari not hiring Keelon Lawson.

• Women who don’t like football but still let their men watch football on Thanksgiving. Y’all get it.

61. So Far, Just Call Him the Grizzlies’ Super Mario -

So it’s safe to say that Mario Chalmers has converted Memphis fans.

As he was scoring 29 points in the Grizzlies’ 122-114 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday, Nov. 16, at FedExForum, scoring 16 of those points in the fourth quarter on two threes and nine free throws, the faithful began chanting “M-V-P, M-V-P.”

62. Reports: Grizz Trade for Miami's Chalmers, Ennis -

As first reported by Yahoo Sports, the Memphis Grizzlies have made a move to upgrade their bench by trading backup point guard Beno Udrih and second-year forward Jarnell Stokes to the Miami Heat for point guard Mario Chalmers and forward James Ennis.

63. Prince, Leuer Lead Grizzlies Bench Above the Rim and Under the Radar -
