1. Williams Honored by Tennessee Urban Forestry Council -

Laurie Williams, adult education coordinator at Memphis Botanic Garden, was recently awarded the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council’s President’s Award for her contribution to establishing and maintaining viable community forests in Tennessee. Williams was one of seven individuals the urban forestry council honored this year.

3. Thornton Finds Balance Between Practice, Pro Bono Work -

Laurie Thornton says it was her own experience with paralyzing fear and a sense of helplessness that led her into the pro bono work she does with her law firm, Glankler Brown PLLC, and with Memphis Area Legal Services.

4. Dr. Lendel Joins Memphis Heart Clinic -

Dr. Vasili Lendel has joined Memphis Heart Clinic. Lendel is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. A native of Siberia, Lendel received the Russian Government Award for Academic Excellence. He did his cardiology fellowship at Penn State's medical center in Hershey, Penn., where he received the Chief Cardiology Fellow award.

5. Schwartzberg Named Professional of the Year -

Dr. Lee S. Schwartzberg has been named Professional of the Year for the field of hematology and oncology in Strathmore Inc.'s 2006-2007 Who's Who, a national registry honoring successful leaders in the fields of business, the arts and sciences, law, engineering and government. Schwartzberg is a senior partner and medical director for The West Clinic. He also serves as director of the Baptist Centers for Cancer Care Stem Cell Transplant Program and the Cancer Genetics Program.

6. First Mercantile Taps Maness to Handle National Accounts -

Philip E. Maness has been appointed director of national accounts and executive vice president of First Mercantile in Cordova. He began his career with First Mercantile in 1984, serving most recently as strategic planning officer.

7. Baker Donelson Names New President, COO -

Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC announced that Jerry Stauffer was selected to serve as the firm's president and chief operating officer. Stauffer formerly served as chairman of the firm's litigation department, as a director of the firm and most recently as managing shareholder. Baker Donelson also announced that Mark Glover was named to a second term as managing shareholder. Ben Adams will continue to serve as board chairman and CEO.
