The Commercial Appeal newsroom got around 30 percent smaller Tuesday, March 28, as a result of cuts made by the newspaper’s still relatively new corporate parent, Gannett Co. Inc.

When USA Today Network executive and president of The Tennessean newspaper Laura Hollingsworth came into town the day after The Commercial Appeal announced printing operations will be moving to Jackson, Tennessee, she told the staff that while no immediate plans were in place, selling the daily paper’s iconic building was certainly a possibility down the road.

3. Commercial Appeal Changes Reflect News Industry Realities -

In a special staff meeting this week at The Commercial Appeal, USA Today Network executive and president of The Tennessean newspaper Laura Hollingsworth was asked whether The CA’s corporate parent might sell its longtime home at 495 Union Ave.

4. The Tennessean to Sell Longtime Nashville Offices -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessean is putting its longtime offices in downtown Nashville up for sale.

The newspaper reports (http://tnne.ws/2bODpVH) that no price has been named for the 10-acre property that is located in the Gulch neighborhood of the city.

5. East Memphis Retail Center Sees Positive Lease Activity -

The Shops at Chickasaw Gardens, on Polar Avenue near the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, has seen good leasing activity recently.

Shark’s Fish and Chicken, an Arkansas-based restaurant chain, signed a lease for 2,330 square feet at 3183 Poplar Ave., taking the former Back Yard Burgers space. David’s Frames & Art renewed its lease for 3,080 square feet at 3151 Poplar Ave. Create A Cig, an electronic cigarette shop, will open soon at 3175 Poplar Ave.
