County Bankruptcy Filings Fall Slightly -

The total number of bankruptcies filed in Shelby County has slowly declined over the last two years.
All chapters combined – Chapters 7, 11 and 13 – amounted to 2,904 Shelby County bankruptcies in the second quarter of 2011, down 1.2 percent from 2,939 in Q2 2010 and down 5 percent from 3,056 in Q2 2009.

The two-parcel, three-building portfolio at 1023 Cherry Road in East Memphis was once an exclusive office complex that housed a prominent local corporation, Harrah’s Entertainment. But the property suffered an ignominious – yet all too familiar – fate Monday when it was sold on the courthouse steps following a foreclosure.
