1. Builders Showcase -

The Vesta Home Show kicked off over the weekend, with large crowds turning out to explore six new homes in a gated Germantown community.

Don Glays, executive director of the West Tennessee Home Builders Association, said attendance during the opening weekend of the show was strong.

Dave Moore of The Dave Moore Cos. was the winner of the 2012 VESTA People’s Choice Award presented at the Memphis Area Home Builders Association’s “3rd Thursday” mixer, Thursday, Nov. 15, at Quantum Showrooms.

3. Early Results: Vesta Exceeds Expectations -

“Beyond our expectations.”

4. Residential Greening -

There was a time not so long ago when potential homebuyers had to demand energy efficiency in new homes.

Nowadays, green features are more of an expectation than an extra.

“I would venture to say that just about everybody asks about energy efficiency,” said Martha Fondren, director of sales and marketing for Grant & Co. “They may not say it in those words, but they ask us about what kind of furnaces we are using, what kind of faucets, what kind of insulation. What are the standard things that people can expect when they walk in the home in order to save them money on the utility bills because that’s a huge expense.”

5. Smaller, Greener Homes New Focus for Builders -

The characteristics, features and sizes of new homes are evolving, according to a recent survey from the National Association of Home Builders that delves into what is anticipated for the industry by the year 2015.

6. Testing Green -

The word “green” is certainly a buzzword these days, used almost synonymously for energy efficiency. Although energy efficiency is a part of green, green is a whole lot more than that.

To date, there are less than 600 houses in Shelby County and its surrounding areas that have some type of energy performance standard applied to them – whether it’s EcoBuild, a Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division program, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design for new homes, the National Green Building Standard or a U.S. Department of Energy Energy Star.

7. Homebuilders Work Toward Much Greener Mentality -

A Memphis company last week forged an important milestone for the sustainable building movement when the National Association of Home Builders certified the 500th home in the U.S. through the organization’s National Green Building Program.
