SEATTLE (AP) – Memo to the many places vying for Amazon's second headquarters: It ain't all food trucks and free bananas.

For years, much of downtown Seattle has been a maze of broken streets and caution-taped sidewalks. Dozens of enormous cranes tower overhead as double-length dump trucks hauling excavated dirt rumble past pedestrians and bicyclists. The crashing and clanging of construction is the city's soundtrack on a perpetual loop.

The House overwhelmingly approved legislation Monday, April 24, requiring records about officer-involved shooting deaths be open to the public.

Sponsored by Rep. G.A. Hardaway and Sen. Lee Harris, both Memphis Democrats, the move opens the curtain on Tennessee Bureau of Investigation records, which are exempt from the Tennessee Open Records Act and confidential. Generally they are disclosed to the public only through a court order.

All of a sudden, it seems, Kroger has transformed itself from a traditional grocery retailer to a tech-savvy brand that’s comfortable on the cutting edge.

At the chain’s corporate office in Memphis on a recent afternoon, Jeff Evans, e-commerce manager for the Kroger Delta Division, was showing one shopper some of the bells and whistles Kroger put inside its mobile shopping app. One hassle, the shopper mused aloud, is that she makes her grocery list but then has to run back and forth across the store once she get there, since the list never seems to line up in order with the store layout.

Mike Conley and his sore Achilles were in street clothes on the bench. Zach Randolph, after missing seven straight games with a sore knee, was back in uniform and playing. And playing so well that late in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies 113-102 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, March 19 at FedExForum, Conley had a secret to share.

That was the trade at the NBA’s Thursday afternoon deadline that caused much of Thursday’s deadline buzz as well as lots of social media reaction.
Some of the reaction was tempered by the other part, a protected lottery pick for the Grizz as well.

The Memphis Grizzlies traded forward Jeff Green to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday in exchange for guard Lance Stephenson and a future protected first-round draft pick.

The deal confirmed by the Clippers hours after the NBA trade deadline passed reunites Green with Doc Rivers, who coached him in Boston from 2011-13.

48. Grizz Lose 2nd-Straight OT Game and Gasol to Foot Injury -

As images go, it doesn’t get much worse than seeing center Marc Gasol being helped off the court, forward Jeff Green inadvertently tapping in a shot for the other team at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, and former Grizzly Ed Davis doing the kind of work that inspired praise from Portland coach Terry Stotts.

After the Grizzlies had gone into New Orleans and handed the Pelicans a 110-95 defeat, Anthony Davis neatly summed up the transformation that occurs – has been occurring – when the Grizzlies shoot from the perimeter like a real live contemporary NBA team.

Memphis forced Indiana into 17 turnovers and 39 percent shooting in a 96-84 victory over the Pacers on Saturday night.

So it’s safe to say that Mario Chalmers has converted Memphis fans.

As he was scoring 29 points in the Grizzlies’ 122-114 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday, Nov. 16, at FedExForum, scoring 16 of those points in the fourth quarter on two threes and nine free throws, the faithful began chanting “M-V-P, M-V-P.”

No way Tennessee’s football team can lose Saturday’s homecoming game against North Texas, one of the worst teams in college football.

Gasol also had grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots, but it was an eyesore of a game even if at the end the Grizzlies had improved their record to 30-12.

The Mark Ronson song “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars has spent a few weeks now in the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
