World-Renowned Urban Planner Sees 21st Century Potential in Shelby Farms -

For Alex Garvin, an urban planner heavily involved in the transformation of Shelby Farms, his career all started with one book: "The Death and Life of Great American Cities," by Jane Jacobs.
The book, which was published in the early 1960s, inspired Garvin so much that he ended up pursuing a degree in urban planning at Yale University.
