NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities raided a Tennessee sheriff's office as part of a yet undisclosed federal investigation.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents spent Tuesday carrying files and computer disks out of the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office. County Finance Director Sam Owens says agents also gave him a court order to turn over financial records related to the sheriff's office.

A group of students at Maxine Smith STEAM Academy at the Fairgrounds started the school week Monday with a gathering in a circle outside the art deco school building at Central and East Parkway in a student-led memorial for the students killed in Parkland, Florida almost two weeks ago. There was a moment of silence followed by reading the names of the 17 students who died in the massacre.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – As the whiskey industry continues to grow, Tennessee's two largest distilleries struggled to comply with water quality regulations last year.
Jack Daniels and George Dickel exceeded their limits for chlorine and other pollutants that can harm aquatic wildlife. After investigating the violations, the distilleries traced the problems to broken or inadequate machinery and faulty testing. State officials say the companies have fixed the problems and are now back in compliance.

2014: Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong says 308 police officers have called in sick during the Fourth of July holiday week in what he acknowledges is probably a “work action” by cops upset over cuts to health benefits.
The sick-out causes the department to use contingency plans, which include sending officers in units such as the Organized Crime Unit back to uniform patrol and using Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies in the Beale Street Entertainment District.
