NEW YORK (AP) – The plan was for Greg Goodman to sell his auto supply store and retire about the time he turned 60. Then Plan B came along – his son Chandler decided to join and eventually take over the family business instead of becoming an architect.

2. Hillwood to Launch Two Spec Buildings in DeSoto County -

A Texas-based development firm will start turning dirt soon on a massive new business park in DeSoto County.

Hillwood Investment Properties is expected to begin site work in around 30 days on Legacy Park, a 266-acre distribution and business park on the south side of Goodman Road, just east of Hacks Cross Road near Polk Lane.

3. Renovation, Expansion Underway at Saddle Creek -

The Shops at Saddle Creek has picked up a new tenant as the lifestyle center undergoes a renovation.

Marmi Shoes has leased 1,395 square feet between Vera Bradley and Madewell at Saddle Creek. St. Louis-based Marmi Shoes offers a wide variety of women’s shoe styles and sizes with a European influence. The Saddle Creek location, the first in the Memphis area and the second in Tennessee, is expected to open in the fall.

4. Building Capacities -

Major road and highway projects like the Interstate 269 loop, I-40/240 and the Mallory Road interchange near Frank Pigeon Industrial Park made substantial progress during 2013, with several phases of important transportation corridors wrapping up and new projects planned for 2014 and beyond.

5. ‘Washington Courtyard’ Sells For $900K -

A trio of office buildings at Washington Avenue and Danny Thomas Boulevard has traded hands for $900,000.

Investment group 301 WA LTD LLC of Arizona purchased the assets from Gregory Realty GP. Brian Califf of NAI Saig Co. represented the seller.

6. Architectural Stories -

The houses on this year’s Central Gardens Home and Garden Tour chronicle a century of architectural styling.

They begin with traditional designs that borrow from past times and end with a 1967 residence built for the modern age. The 34th annual tour, which features six homes, will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

7. Memphis-Based TCB Entertainment Brings More Concerts to Mid-South -

Memphians might think of Elvis when they see the letters "TCB." After all, "Taking Care of Business (in a Flash)" was the King's trademark phrase, while TCB and an accompanying lightning bolt now adorn a zillion souvenirs.

8. DeSoto Restaurant Market Takes Off -

Five years ago, DeSoto County's list of places to dine wasn't that impressive. But today, choices abound.

With more than 1 million square feet of retail space expected to be delivered in the next few years, coupled with the construction of several new subdivisions, it's no wonder the dining options available to DeSoto County residents are increasing exponentially.

9. Downtown Rebirth on Tap for Southaven -

It's been five years since the city of Southaven and Southaven Chamber of Commerce officials launched a joint project aimed at reviving the city's downtown business district.

Since its launch, the project has helped to create a resurgence of activity in an area of the city once neglected as businesses and their customers fled south to Goodman Road.

10. Southaven Businesses Gain From Growth -

Rhonda Hohlt, owner of a home cleaning service in Southaven, has no reason to expect business to slow down anytime soon. She's owned Help Me Rhonda! Cleaning Services for 17 of the 20 years she's lived in Southaven, and the growth of the business continues to parallel that of the 25-year-old North Mississippi town.
