1. 24-Hour Run Supports Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis -

The years and the miles are adding up. And there really couldn’t be one without the other. Seventeen years ago, volunteers from Memphis went to Haiti on a short-term mission trip and saw there was a desperate need for health services.

2. Events -

A touchdown celebration will be held for Wei Chen, the first Chinese citizen to circumnavigate the globe, Friday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson Air Center, 2930 Winchester Road. Chen will land his Daher-Socata TBM700 after completing a 69-day trip around the world.

3. Methodist Foundation Announces Living Awards -

Methodist Healthcare Foundation has announced the recipients of the 2010 Living Awards.

The honorees are Barbara H. Hamilton, Dr. S. Douglas Hixson, Dr. Jon H. Robertson, Dr. Gordon J. Kraus and the Maua Methodist Hospital in Kenya.

4. Le Bonheur Team Ready For Haiti Deployment -

A team from Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center is among the first dedicated pediatric surgical teams from the U.S. being deployed to Haiti.

The team, which will leave this week, will be working at the Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis clinic in Croix des Bouquets near Port-au-Prince.

5. US Ups Ante On Haitian Assistance; Memphians Chip In -

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama said Thursday that “one of the largest relief efforts in our recent history” is moving toward Haiti as he continued to mobilize the U.S. response to the island’s devastating earthquake.

6. Local Support for Haiti Relief Effort Picks Up -

Memphis-area organizations and businesses are participating in big and small ways in relief efforts for Haiti, the Caribbean nation that was devastated by a 7.0 earthquake Tuesday.

Tennessee Task Force One has not yet been deployed to Haiti. But Dr. Joe Holley, medical director for TNTF1, told The Daily News in an e-mail today that deployment could be coming.
