1. Last Word: Last Day of Early Voting, Senate Poll and Legislature Goes to Overtime -

The last day of early voting before the May 1 election day is Thursday. And the turnout count through Wednesday has eclipsed the total early voting turnout in this same set of elections in 2010 and 2014. You can find a list of early voting locations and the hours at www.shelbyvote.com, the website of the Shelby County Election Commission. The winners on election night next Tuesday advance to the August county general election.

3. Poll: Voters Oppose Guns in Bars, Like Arizona Law -

NASHVILLE (AP) – A poll conducted for the Tennessee Newspaper Network shows that most voters oppose a new state law that allows handguns into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Seven in 10 voters polled said that the prospect of mixing guns with alcohol is too dangerous, according to a poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Research & Polling Inc. for the Tennessee Newspaper Network and WBIR in Knoxville, Channel 10.

5. Poll: Wharton Expanding Lead for Memphis Mayor -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A new poll indicates A C Wharton has widened his lead going into this week's Memphis mayor's election.

The Shelby County mayor was supported by 53 percent, followed by interim Memphis Mayor Myron Lowery with 16 percent and City Councilwoman Carol Chumney with 9 percent. Wharton had 45 percent in a poll taken last month.

Myron Lowery has about a week to go in his tenure as Memphis’ mayor pro tem depending on how long it takes to certify the Oct. 15 election results.

7. Lowery Tells Rotary Forum He's Two Year Mayor -

Memphis Mayor Pro Tempore Myron Lowery told an audience of 200 today that he probably would not run in the 2011 city elections if he wins the Oct. 15 special election for mayor.

8. Bethel Named New VP Of COMEC Board -

Greg Bethel has been named vice president of the board of directors of the Commission on Missing & Exploited Children (COMEC). Bethel is the director of human resources for the Jackson-Madison County School System in Jackson, Tenn. He's been on the board of directors for two years.
