1. Insurers Get Into Care, But is it Good for Your Health? -

In the not-too-distant future, your health insurance, your prescription drugs and some of your treatment may come from the same company.

Insurers are dropping billions of dollars on acquisitions and expansions in order to get more involved in customer health. They say this push can help cut costs and improve care, in part by keeping the sickest patients healthy and out of expensive hospitals.

They made music that inspired legions of fans. Rock 'n' roll founding fathers Chuck Berry and Fats Domino, rockers Tom Petty and Gregg Allman, grunge icon Chris Cornell, country superstar Glen Campbell and jazz great Al Jarreau were among the notable figures who died in 2017, leaving a void in virtually every genre of music.

The University of Memphis football team still has one game left to play – the Dec. 20 Boca Raton Bowl vs. Western Kentucky – but the Tigers got together on Sunday, Dec. 11, to honor some of the award winners from this season at the annual Highland Hundred Banquet at the Hilton Memphis East.

4. Darrius Stewart Family Sues City, Police For $17 Million -

The family of Darrius Stewart, killed a year ago this month by Memphis Police Officer Conner Schilling, has filed a $17 million lawsuit against the city of Memphis, former Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong and Schilling.

5. Scotty Moore, Elvis Presley's First Guitarist, Dies At 84 -

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Scotty Moore, the pioneering rock guitarist whose sharp, graceful style helped Elvis Presley shape his revolutionary sound and inspired a generation of musicians that included Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Bruce Springsteen, died Tuesday. He was 84.

The Memphis alumni chapter of LeMoyne-Owen College will kick off the Jerry C. Johnson Sports Weekend with a ceremony renaming the school’s gymnasium to the C. Arthur Bruce Hall/Jerry C. Johnson Gymnasium Thursday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at LOC, 807 Walker Ave. Call 435-1235.
