4. Ballet Memphis Partners With MJCC to Open Dance School -

Ballet Memphis is planning to open a second Ballet Memphis School location this summer.

The organization has formalized an agreement with the Memphis Jewish Community Center, located at 6560 Poplar Ave. in East Memphis, to operate the school in the MJCC space currently staffed by the Markell School of Dance.

Ballet Memphis gave an early tour of its new $21 million facility in Overton Square Wednesday, Nov. 16, to highlight some of the features that will be part of the 38,000-square-foot building now under construction.

Scratch those plans for a new Hotel Overton where the French Quarter Inn now sits in Overton Square.

Ballet Memphis has a sales contract on the property at the northeast corner of Madison Avenue and Cooper Street and plans to build a new two-story structure fronting on Madison with parking in the rear and on the eastern end.
