2. Home Builders Group Buys Building for Headquarters -

The West Tennessee Home Builders Association has paid $4.4 million for an office building at 5400 Poplar Ave. in East Memphis that will house the organization’s new headquarters.

3. Clark Carries on Family Tradition -

David Clark comes from a long line of construction industry professionals.

His grandfather, John C. Clark Jr., started building homes back in 1942, and his cousin, Ben Clark, has been involved in the subdivision business for more than 20 years.

4. MAHBA Begins Search for New Headquarters -

The leadership of the Memphis Area Home Builders Association has tapped a 14-member committee to help the homebuilding trade association find a new office location.

Don Caylor of Summerset Homes is chairing the group. It’s sifting through such factors as deciding how much space will be needed and looking at membership growth to determine whether staying closer to Memphis’ core or going elsewhere within the group’s geography (which includes Fayette and Tipton counties) is the better option.

6. CVS Closes On Cordova Land -

CVS has closed on the 1.8-acre parcel of land on Germantown Parkway in Cordova where it will build its next area pharmacy. Terms of the deal weren’t immediately available.

The Daily News first reported in June that Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS, the retail division of CVS Caremark, would buy the land from Gill Properties and bring a retail store to the site of the former Memphis Area Home Builders Association headquarters at 776 N. Germantown Parkway.

7. CVS Inks Deal for Former MAHBA HQ -

CVS has chosen a busy stretch of Germantown Parkway in Cordova for its next area pharmacy.

The company’s regional developer, Redd Realty Services Inc., has inked a deal with Gill Properties to build a retail store on the site of the former Memphis Area Home Builders Association headquarters at 776 N. Germantown Parkway.

8. NAHB Economist To Speak in Memphis -

National Association of Home Builders senior economist Elliot Eisenberg will be in town Friday to discuss the economic benefits of homebuilding in Shelby County.

Eisenberg will speak at noon at the Memphis Area Home Builders Association headquarters, 776 N. Germantown Parkway. The $30 registration fee includes lunch and a summary of Eisenberg’s report.

9. Commercial Sales Close 2009 on High Note -

Shelby County’s commercial real estate market saved its best for last in 2009, as the final month registered the highest sales total and largest dollar volume all year.

Not only that, but December marked the first year-over-year increase for a month during 2009 and the first year-over-year increase for a month since December 2007.

10. Home Builders HQ Could Become Retail Outlet -

The Memphis Area Home Builders Association is in the market for a new home, and its soon-to-be former digs appear headed for redevelopment.

In a deal that closed Dec. 18, the longtime homebuilding trade association sold its headquarters at 776 Germantown Road for $2.7 million to Ray Gill of Gill Properties Inc. Gill was attracted to the property because of its large footprint – a 3.6-acre parcel on the east side of Germantown – and because of its placement near the Trinity Commons shopping center along a busy corridor with high traffic.
