1. Cordova Apartment Community Sells for $27.9M -

The Charleston, a 284-unit apartment community on the east side of Houston Levee Road just south of U.S. 64, has sold for $27.9 million, marking a new chapter for a property that was built just last year.

Work on the $55 million Central Station renovation is continuing as a roughly $1 million building permit application has been filed with construction officials.

The permit, which calls for renovations and additions to 545 S. Main St., lists MATA as both the owner and tenant.

The developers of the Central Station, located at 545 S. Main St., filed an $18.5 million building permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to convert the existing building from residential apartments to a hotel.

7. MATA Changes Target Frayser and Southeast Memphis -

The public’s first chance to comment Tuesday, Feb. 9, on a set of 35 interim changes to Memphis’ bus schedule sounded like an auction.

There were questions that began with numbers – route numbers that would change directions and streets or the frequency of service. And there were a lot of numbers to consider.

8. MATA Holds Public Hearings On Route Changes -

The Memphis Area Transit Authority begins a series of public meetings Tuesday, Feb. 9, on a set of proposed route changes that would take effect May 1 if approved by the MATA board.

The fixed route changes include adding trips after 5 p.m. to Route 4 to the Castalia area; restoring the 4:06 p.m. westbound trip on Route 34; and increasing midday buses on the Route 50 Poplar Avenue service.

35. MATA Proposes Fare Increase -

The Memphis Area Transit Authority has recently announced a proposed fare increase for fixed-route service, MATAplus and trolley service. The proposed fare increase, the first in four years, would go into effect Nov. 7. The increase is due to mounting fuel prices as well as the rising costs of health care and bus parts.
