1. Crosstown High School Gets $2.5 Million XQ Institute Grant -

A year from opening, organizers of Crosstown High School have secured a $2.5 million, five-year grant from a national education reform group focused specifically on high schools.

“It puts us in a much greater financial position,” said Chris Terrill, Crosstown High executive director. “But more important than the financial revenue is the connection we make to the XQ network of people.”

Crosstown High School is still forming. But the school to open for classes at Crosstown Concourse in August 2018 has an executive director.

The board of Crosstown High announced Monday, Jan. 2, that it has named Chris Terrill, an educator from Mooresville, North Carolina, as the school’s first executive director.

The Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division board is scheduled to take action on a resolution at Thursday’s meeting awarding a $156,034 contract to Venture Technologies for an e-mail system upgrade.

The board also is scheduled to consider a resolution authorizing the utility company to extend an interdivisional cooperative agreement with the city of Memphis to buy unleaded and low sulfur diesel fuel.

43. Shelby Farms Set To Begin Two Projects -

The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy has filed a pair of building permits with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to build a new playground and pedestrian bridge.

The nonprofit organization that oversees two-thirds of the 4,500-acre Shelby Farms Park filed a $3.5 million permit for the playground and a $1.8 million permit for the bridge. Both permits list the park’s formal address of 500 Pine Lake Drive.

44. Shelby Farms Cleanup To be Held Saturday -

The last Clean Memphis event of 2008 will be Saturday at Shelby Farms Park.

Volunteers are needed to help spread mulch on the trails, weed the flower beds and pick up litter along the shores of the lakes.

The public got its first look Thursday at three proposed plans for Shelby Farms Park.

The designs by Tom Leader Studio, Hargreaves Associates and Field Operations offer very different ideas for a master plan to come.
