The 3,500-square-foot steel coaster, to be housed inside the location at 1245 N. Germantown Parkway, is 72 feet long, 35 feet wide and 14 feet tall.

America’s Incredible Pizza Company is unveiling an indoor roller coaster at its Cordova family entertainment center next month.

The 3,500-square-foot steel coaster, to be housed inside the location at 1245 N. Germantown Parkway, is 72 feet long, 35 feet wide and 14 feet tall. The track is a figure-eight shape and each compartment car can hold up to four people, making for an overall capacity of 16 people per ride.

A specialty retailer of high-quality tile will open its first location in Memphis later this year.

The Tile Shop is in the final stages of negotiating a roughly 20,000-square-foot lease at 1245 Germantown Parkway, between Cordova Road and Autumn Creek Drive, in the Germantown Square Shopping Center in Cordova, according to company representative Lindsey Rose.

Entertainment retailer Hastings Entertainment has operated a store in Cordova for the last four years.

But the location at 1245 Germantown Parkway, where the chain has operated in a 25,000-square-foot space since 2007, has long been unable to hit the company’s earnings target. That’s according to Hastings chief financial officer Dan Crow, who cited that and the fact “we just didn’t have sufficient volume” at the location as reason the company is closing it in early December.

Memphis-based Cypress Realty Holdings Co. has paid $1.4 million for the ground lease of the Red Robin restaurant at 1231 N. Germantown Parkway in Cordova. The building sits on a 1.68-acre outparcel of the former Kmart at 1245 N. Germantown Parkway. That center was redeveloped into an America’s Incredible Pizza Co. and other stores by NPK Cordova LLC, which sold the ground lease to Cypress Realty Holdings.

The Cordova-area retail space formerly home to Kmart is being remodeled to make way for bowling lanes, a mini-golf course, go-kart track, video games, a pizza buffet and more.

The company behind the renovation of that vacant space at 1245 Germantown Parkway is Tulsa, Okla.-based America's Incredible Pizza Co., a company whose properties are veritable palaces of dining and entertainment options.

When New Plan Excel Realty Trust Inc. and Sears Holdings Corp. set up a joint development venture in 2005, the venture's first deal involved transforming three former Kmart stores in Memphis.

Sears had closed the stores in 2005, citing their under-performance. Since then, Sears' partner in its development venture - a New York real estate investment trust (REIT) with assets of about $3.5 billion - has more than lived up to its name.

Judging by the interest of a New York-based real estate investment trust, ownership of one of the most expensive pieces of property in Shelby County soon could be changing hands.

New Plan Excel Realty Trust is in the early stages of acquiring The Commons, a 33-acre shopping center across from Wolfchase Galleria that includes such tenants as Old Navy, Home Depot and Toys 'R' Us.

It's common to refer to the object of someone's affection as "the apple of my eye," so one thing a group of civic and business leaders wants to do for Cordova is brand the Memphis suburb with a similar phrase.
