9. Dollar General Buys Three New Stores -

Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General Corp. has paid $3.2 million to buy three recently completed stores from Ware Properties LLC, the company that built them.

Construction plans for a new stand-alone space for a growing Arlington veterinary clinic are under way near its current shopping center space.

Samuel Garrett Davis, founder of Arlington Pet Hospital PLLC, has filed a $1.2 million building permit application with the city-county Department of Construction Code Enforcement for a 5,200-square-foot facility, complete with hospital boarding and grooming capabilities.

13. Dollar General Building Store On Jackson In N. Memphis -

Plans for a new Dollar General store in the city’s North submarket are under way. Ware Properties LLC purchased 9,100 square feet of vacant land at 3433 Jackson Ave. from Hector Tejeda in May for $140,000, according to the Shelby County Register of Deeds. The Shelby County Assessor of Property’s 2011 appraisal of the parcel was $109,200.

15. Midtown CVS Approved By Council -

Memphis City Council member approved a CVS drug store at Union Ave and Cooper St. on a 10-2 vote that followed a two hour debate.

The council also approved an amendment calling on the developers of the store to get as close as they can in their plans to requirements of the advisory Midtown overlay. The two exceptions to that are restrictions on a drive through window for the pharmacy and how far from the street the building can be.

Coldwater, Miss.-based Ware Properties LLC has filed a $485,000 permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to build a Dollar General store at 4546 Millbranch Road in Whitehaven. The 9,014-square-foot store will sit on 1.15 acres along the east side of Millbranch, north of East Shelby Drive.

20. Motel Project Causes Council Tension -

When Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton shows up in the City Council’s committee room, it usually means he wants to make a point – maybe several.

This week, Herenton took the elevator from his office down two floors and waited his turn before the council’s Planning and Zoning Committee to protest plans for a hotel in the inner city neighborhood where he grew up.

21. Grace Development Couples Preservation With Infill -

A local company is putting a different twist on infill development by building new homes on a 1.3-acre East Memphis parcel while keeping the property's existing 1928 home in place.

Grace Development LLC has purchased the 4,473-square foot home at 471 S. Yates Road, on the southwest corner of Yates and Brantford roads, for $850,000.
