The breach of contract lawsuit filed against Blockbuster Inc. by Southern Stores Video Inc. – the franchise ownership group for Blockbuster stores in Shelby County – is headed toward mediation, according to the court docket in the case. The suit was filed in September 2006 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

12. Local Franchise Group Sues Blockbuster for Breach of Contract -

When video rental giant Blockbuster Inc. acquired the movie-downloading service Movielink LLC in August, the purchase was aimed at kicking the rental company's performance up a notch.

That acquisition someday will allow Blockbuster customers to download movies straight to their PCs or televisions instead of getting in their cars to drive to the nearest retail store. But where customers may one day see convenience and the company a revenue boost, the franchise group that runs Blockbuster's Memphis-area stores already sees a glaring breach of contract.
