The company will create 300 new Tennessee jobs in the process, LEDIC announced Wednesday, Nov. 11. About 100 of the new jobs will be based at the new national headquarters at 555 S. Perkins Rd. The remaining 200, which include management, construction, maintenance and leasing positions, will be distributed throughout the state.

The idea of an Overton Square hotel has long been a part of plans for the Midtown entertainment district, which marks the 45th anniversary of its founding this month.

Seven years after the district’s first hotel, the French Quarter Inn, closed its doors for good, there are plans for a new five-story, 134-suite Hotel Overton on the same northeast corner of Madison Avenue and North Cooper Street.

Overall home sales in Shelby County were essentially flat in the first quarter while homebuilding activity increased, despite arctic temperatures in February and March that could have put the residential real estate sector in the deep freeze.

The long-vacant French Quarter Inn on Madison Avenue near Overton Square has been sold for $1.9 million, according to property records.

California-based NCE Realty and Capital Group LLC closed Dec. 31 on the purchase of the 105-room inn at the northeast corner of Madison Avenue and Cooper Street.
