1. U of M’s Raines Appointed To Southern Regional Education Board -

Dr. Shirley C. Raines has been appointed to the Southern Regional Education Board by Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. Raines, president of the University of Memphis, will serve a four-year term.

The West Clinic is one of 11 sites within the Accelerated Community Oncology Research Network Inc. that has been chosen to participate in a breast cancer research study. Participants are needed for the study.

3. Luminetx Names Ogle New CFO -

After more than a year without a chief financial officer, Luminetx Corp. has named John Ogle to the position.

Ogle has more than 22 years experience in accounting and finance, most recently serving as CFO of Supportive Oncology Services Inc. (SOS) and Accelerated Community Oncology Research Network Inc. (ACORN), affiliates of The West Clinic.

4. ACORN Takes Step Forward In War on Cancer -

A local research network with ties to The West Clinic has taken a step to ensure the best treatment methods are chosen for cancer patients who are treated in The West Clinic as well as other clinics affiliated with the network.

5. Research Model Seeks to Include More Minority Participants -

A local research network has developed a research model designed to bridge the gap in health care to underserved communities, especially the black community.

Using the method, the 31 ACORN network clinics have more than doubled minority participation in clinical trials.

6. Dr. Lendel Joins Memphis Heart Clinic -

Dr. Vasili Lendel has joined Memphis Heart Clinic. Lendel is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. A native of Siberia, Lendel received the Russian Government Award for Academic Excellence. He did his cardiology fellowship at Penn State's medical center in Hershey, Penn., where he received the Chief Cardiology Fellow award.
