WASHINGTON (AP) – Goldman Sachs may be about to get another friend in Washington.

Jay Clayton, a well-connected Wall Street lawyer who is President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission, is sure to face sharp questions from Democrats at his confirmation hearing Thursday over his years of work for Goldman and other financial giants.

It’s a mid-March afternoon, and the Webb School of Knoxville boys’ tennis team is fresh off an 8-1 loss to Bristol’s Tennessee High School.

Webb coach Jimmy Pitkanen sees it as a learning experience – just like every other match, win or lose.

The Downtown Memphis Commission is working with developers interested in converting the Chisca Hotel into a set of smaller studio apartments.

DMC president Paul Morris on Tuesday, March 13, talked in general terms about working with the developers, noting the commission has signed a confidentiality agreement with them.

24. Renasant Reclaims 16 Eads Parcels -

Renasant Bank has reclaimed 16 parcels – 13 of which are residential lots and three of which are common areas – in the Curtman Glenn Planned Development in unincorporated Shelby County near Eads following a foreclosure of the properties. The Tupelo, Miss.-based bank paid $1.6 million for the land from substitute trustee Paul N. Royal of the law firm Crislip, Philip and Associates.

26. Renasant Reclaims 11 Highland Point Lots -

Renasant Bank has bought back 11 lots in the Highland Point Subdivision in unincorporated Shelby County from developer Latting Road Partners LLC following a foreclosure. The bank bought the parcels for a combined $1 million in a substitute trustee’s deed, acquiring the properties on the steps of the Shelby County Courthouse from trustee Paul Royal of the law firm Crislip, Philip and Associates.

Once Memphis City Council members thought they had solved the problem of scrap metal looting, they faced another problem – ending a legal stalemate with scrap metal dealers who sued the city of Memphis two years ago over the ordinance.
