12. Blume Named to Tennessee Real Estate Commission -

Gary Blume, a veteran agent with RE/MAX Real Estate Experts, has been appointed by Gov. Bill Haslam to a five-year term on the Tennessee Real Estate Commission. Blume is a past president of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors and has served twice as president of the Tennessee Real Estate Educational Foundation.

13. J-Line Pump Growing in Collierville -

A local pumping equipment manufacturer is increasing its presence in the Collierville market. 

J-Line Pump Co., doing business as American-Marsh Pumps, bought the 81,260-square-foot warehouse on 12.4 acres at 550 E. South St. for $1.4 million. This will be in addition to the adjoining 110,000-square-foot warehouse at 185 Progress Road the company has occupied since 1999.

14. Meritan Focuses on Awareness, Collaboration -

Meritan, a private nonprofit that provides a vast array of services for seniors, foster children and developmentally disabled and visually impaired individuals in four states, is the largest social services agency in Memphis, second only to Youth Villages.

15. Humphreys Joins Keller Williams Realty -

Herbo Humphreys has joined the Crump Realty Group of Keller Williams Realty. Humphreys previously worked as a project supervisor for Bryan-Turley Properties.

16. Evolve Bank & Trust Names Holland to Board -

Evolve Bank & Trust has named Lewis E. Holland to its board of directors.

Holland served six years as president of the regional investment banking firm UMIC Inc., and after its sale in 1988 became a partner at the Memphis office of Ernst & Young LLP.

17. Judge Derails Class-Action Status For Nurse Wage Suit -

A last-ditch attempt to gain class-action status for a lawsuit alleging that Memphis hospitals conspired to suppress nurse wages has failed.

U.S. District Judge Samuel H. Mays Jr. has denied a motion to allow a substitute plaintiff. He issued the order last week after ruling in September that the two originally named plaintiffs did not adequately represent nurses in the Memphis area.

18. Bloodworth Named Chair of Urban Land Institute’s District Council -

Russell Bloodworth has been named chair of the Urban Land Institute’s District Council representing Memphis and the Mid-South. He most recently served as assistant chairman to the previous chair, Frank Ricks of Looney Ricks Kiss.

19. U of M Names Murrell Assistant Dean of Distance Education -

Dr. Vicki Murrell has been named assistant dean of distance education for the University of Memphis.

20. ‘Hoops of Fire’ Squelch Commercial Real Estate Activity -

The economy hasn’t extinguished commercial real estate deals, but it certainly has changed the way they get done.

Shane McElveen learned about the tedious process of property acquisition when he looked into buying the High Point Funeral Chapel at 3788 Summer Ave. in the Berclair area. McElveen, who had worked at the chapel as senior vice president, was trying to buy the business from owner G. David Keller.

22. Funeral Home and Office Sell for $3.4 Million -

A Berclair commercial portfolio anchored by the High Point Funeral Chapel sold Aug. 10 for $3.4 million in an internal transaction. The seller, G. David Keller, is listed as president and owner of the funeral home at 3788 Summer Ave.

23. Memphis Music Foundation Elects Bell Chairman -

Al Bell has been elected the new chairman of the Memphis Music Foundation.
Under Bell’s direction, the foundation will continue to provide education, strategic planning and promotional opportunities to the Memphis music industry.
Bell is the former chairman and owner of Stax Records and former president of Motown Records. Bell has worked with artists such as Booker T and the MG’s, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Albert King, Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes and Richard Pryor.
