Both Butcher and the employee, Donte Davis, were proud for reasons that extended beyond the top-notch set of wheels.

It’s not easy being a food inspector in Tennessee, dealing with an updated statewide food code to protect the public from foodborne illnesses and educating restaurateurs, many with their own ideas about their cuisine, on following the rules.

The professional biking world is looking to put Memphis on the map. Victory Bicycle Studio has been tapped to serve as the first U.S. service center for 3T, a Milan, Italy-based manufacturer of high-end bike components.

7. 3T Cycling, Victory Bike CEO To Open Service Center -

3T Cycling, an international manufacturer of bicycle components and equipment, has chosen Memphis for its first North American customer service and repair center for 3T wheels.

Clark Butcher, owner and CEO of Victory Bicycle Studio, will lead the venture, creating a new alliance between 3T and Victory.

8. Learning in Action -

For the past three years, the Carpenter Art Garden has worked to unite and uplift a Binghampton neighborhood and keep kids engaged with the community.

But with a new expansion into job training, the Binghampton Development Corp. and the leaders of the Carpenter Art Garden aim to send the kids on local apprenticeships to compete in a national job market.

9. Brookhaven Boom -

Downtown has the South Main Historic Arts District and the Main Street core. Midtown has Cooper-Young, Overton Square and the Broad Avenue Arts District, among others.

In East Memphis, defining a proper restaurant and entertainment district might seem to be more difficult, but in fact it’s existed all along on Brookhaven Circle. It’s just taken a few new restaurant openings to bring the neighborhood into full focus.

When he’s not busy selling bikes and hooking anyone he can deep into bike culture, Victory Bicycle Studio owner Clark Butcher is thinking about the next location of his business.

Almost three years ago, former elementary school art teacher Erin Harris saw a video about children in Memphis who were working with an artist to start a sculpture garden. She still recalls the happy sight of a few boys in the video throwing balloons filled with paint at an old fence, as well as the reaction the footage generated from her.

12. Wings Ride Team to Cycle for Cancer Funds, Awareness -

The Wings Ride Team will depart Sept. 28 at noon on a 500-mile charity cycling event to promote cancer awareness, encourage healthy lifestyles, and raise funds for Wings Cancer Foundation’s Wellness Program.

13. Victory Bicycle Spins its Wheels In Roomier Space on Broad -

Victory Bicycle Studio recently opened the doors to its new store at 2549 Broad Ave., just more than a year after its original location caught fire.

14. Fire-Damaged Victory Bicycle Reopens in Cooper-Young -

Victory Bicycle Studio at 2294 Young Ave. in Midtown has reopened its doors after being damaged by fire in September.

15. 'Right Direction' -

Paul Rubin has a little more company these days when he rides his bicycle with the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club. He’s been a member for more than 20 years, but right now about half of the club is just getting started.
