We’re the national media’s flavor of the day – the “It city,” which has gone from being a secondary concert market – remember The Beatles played Memphis, not Nashville – to one of the country’s prime touring destinations.

There was a moment at the Greater Memphis Chamber’s annual luncheon Wednesday, Dec. 12, when the large crowd at The Peabody hotel got a sense for how much depth the city’s musical heritage has and what a complex story it can be.

16. Music & Heritage Festival To Kick Off Saturday -

The Center for Southern Folklore will present its annual Memphis Music & Heritage Festival on a two-block area of Main Street Saturday and Sunday.

More than 400 musicians with local ties will perform including Kate Campbell, Al Kapone, Amy LaVere, Blind Mississippi Morris, Brad Webb, Sonny Burgess & The Pacers, The Daddy Mack Blues Band, Joyce Cobb, Tempeh Four, the Millennium Maddness Drill Team and more.

The Children’s Museum of Memphis will host “CMOM Family Nights” beginning today and continuing every Thursday night in July at CMOM, 2525 Central Ave. Concessions will be available and a family movie will be shown in the Malco 4 Kids at 6:15 p.m. The museum will remain open until 8 p.m. and parents are encouraged to bring their children after work.
