4. CK’s Moves Into Jackson as Part of Expansion -

A longtime Memphis diner chain is expanding its presence into the Jackson, Tenn., market.

CK’s Coffee Shop has signed a five-year lease for 1,390 square feet of the existing 4,900-square-foot Old Medina Market Gas Station at 2800 Old Medina Road.

5. Midtown Apts. Sell for $1M -

Samuel Adefeyisan has purchased the Ashley Manor Apartments – two separate buildings totaling 16 one-bedroom condo units in Midtown – from John P. Waddell and Nancy S. Waddell for $1 million.

6. Harris Joins Transnetyx as VP of Sales -

Michael Harris has joined Transnetyx, a genetic diagnostics company, as vice president of sales for the company’s pharmacogenomics division.

8. ‘Hoops of Fire’ Squelch Commercial Real Estate Activity -

The economy hasn’t extinguished commercial real estate deals, but it certainly has changed the way they get done.

Shane McElveen learned about the tedious process of property acquisition when he looked into buying the High Point Funeral Chapel at 3788 Summer Ave. in the Berclair area. McElveen, who had worked at the chapel as senior vice president, was trying to buy the business from owner G. David Keller.

9. Waddells Buy Ashley Manor Condominiums -

John and Nancy Waddell have bought the two-building, 16-unit Ashley Manor condominiums at 129 and 137 N. Belvedere St. in Midtown for $1.6 million from Chamberlain, McCreery and Rice GP. The sale closed Sept. 4.

10. Spiegel to Begin Work Friday as CEO At Methodist University Hospital -

Kevin M. Spiegel Friday will begin work as chief executive officer and administrator of Methodist University Hospital.

Spiegel is board-certified in health care administration and is a fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives. He previously served as president and chief operating officer of Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio.

12. Barrow Named Chef de Cuisine At Capriccio Grill -

The Peabody Hotel has named Brian Barrow chef de cuisine for Capriccio Grill, an Italian steakhouse. Barrow began his culinary career at 27. He attended Johnson & Wales University's College of Culinary Arts in Miami. He previously was a chef at the Ambassador Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and with Do & Co International Catering.

13. Mayor Herenton's Executive Assistant Moves to MLGW -

Gale Jones Carson has been named director of corporate communications for Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division. In her new executive-level position, she will report directly to MLGW president and CEO Joseph Lee III. She previously was executive assistant to Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton.
