Election Commission to Certify May Results

The Shelby County Election Commission meets Wednesday, May 21, to certify the results of the May 6 Shelby County primary elections.

During its 4 p.m. meeting at the Election Operations Center, 980 Nixon Drive, the commission may also discuss and act on a request by County Commission candidate Martavius Jones.

Jones, who ran in the Democratic primary for District 10, hand-delivered a letter to the Election Commission last week asking the body to delay certifying the results of that race as he seeks a recount.

In the unofficial results, Jones lost to Reginald Milton by 26 votes. But Jones claims the precinct-by-precinct totals don’t match the overall totals.

Jones also appealed to the local Democratic Party’s primary board last week to get involved. The primary board requested the raw election data in the District 10 race from the Election Commission.
