Ed Espitia has joined Michael Hatcher & Associates Inc. as chief financial officer. Espitia comes to the Memphis-based landscape services firm after serving since 2010 as finance manager for Schulz Xtruded Products, a Germany-based pipe maker with operations in North Mississippi.

Experience: More than 20 years of experience developing new businesses in all areas related to accounting – including system conversions, human resources, tax reporting, financial structures and lending opportunities – implementing and developing domestic and international companies that successfully link business operations with a functional accounting structure. Graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, in 1982 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting.

Who has had the greatest influence on you and why? My father, who always showed me how hard work and family are the keys to a God-loving and happy individual.
What attracted you to Michael Hatcher & Associates? The strong religious belief of the owners; I knew they were sincerely concerned for their employees. I was also impressed by the team camaraderie and desire to succeed, which was expressed during my interview.
What are your goals as CFO? Continued development of the accounting area that will support sustained growth and strong financial reporting. Increase involvement with the community and business leaders to benefit the local community and provide local job opportunities.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment? Transitioning, developing and restructuring the accounting functions of several domestic and international companies during my career.
What do you most enjoy about your work? Being part of a company that is still one of the few types of businesses that requires personal and direct communication with their customers.
If you could give one piece of advice to young people, what would it be? Believe in yourself, work hard and don’t ever give up on your dreams and goals.
Mark W. Askew has been named 2014 chairman of the board for the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce. Askew is the founder and president of A2H Inc. and founder of the West Tennessee chapter of the Structural Engineers Association.
Dr. Rabia Rehman has joined the medical staff of the Endocrine and Diabetes Clinic LLC. Rehman completed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in endocrinology and diabetes at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Steven Fulgham and Austin K. Purvis have joined the Memphis office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC as associates in the advocacy department. Both are 2013 graduates of the University of Tennessee College of Law.
EdR has made several executive promotions: Brooke Daniel to associate director of operations for the company’s University of Kentucky communities; James Kenner to vice president and senior director of interior design; and Liz Keough to senior vice president and general counsel. In addition, Beth Pinder has joined EdR as vice president sales and marketing, and Terri Landwehr as director of accounting.
Rannie Handy has celebrated his 40th anniversary with Parsons Transportation Group. Handy joined the company as a draftsman and now prepares roadway design and traffic engineering plans in support of projects for the city of Memphis, Shelby County, and the Tennessee and Mississippi departments of transportation.
Clare Caldwell has joined Second to Nunn Design as a graphic designer, assisting in web design and branding projects. Caldwell previously worked on rebranding efforts with the Oak Ridge Center for Risk Analysis.
