National Civil Rights Museum will host a candlelight vigil honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Friday, April 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the museum courtyard, 450 Mulberry St. Cost is free. Visit civilrightsmuseum.org.

Opera Memphis will kick off the Midtown Opera Festival with “Ghosts of Crosstown” Friday, April 4, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Sears Crosstown, 495 N. Watkins St. The original commissioned work includes five short operas inspired by people who lived near or worked in the Crosstown building. Visit operamemphis.org.

The event includes a 9:30 a.m. Freedom Forward Parade from Cook Convention Center to the museum, 450 Mulberry St.; Breaking of the Chains grand reopening ceremony at 11 a.m.; and performances, speeches and more starting at noon. First Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host the Branch Out Spring Music Festival Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 8161 Germantown Road, Olive Branch. The event will include live music, children’s activities, Frisbee tournament and more. Cost is free. Visit firstcpchurch.org.

The Student Bar Association at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law will hold the Race Judicata 5K Saturday, April 5, at 5 p.m. at Mississippi River Park, at Jefferson Avenue and Riverside Drive. Proceeds benefit Memphis Area Legal Services.
