Moore Steps Down from Chamber

Greater Memphis Chamber president John Moore announced today he’s stepping down effective Jan. 3., ending an eight-year run in the position.

Under his leadership, the Chamber said, it’s recruited projects bringing in more than 21,000 new jobs, $4.5 billion in new capital investment and facilitated more than $350 million in transportation and infrastructure projects. Moore also led a rebranding of the Chamber and repositioned it within the business community.

“Under John’s exemplary leadership, the Greater Memphis Chamber has been recognized as one of the best chambers in the country and an economic development powerhouse,” said chamber chairman Larry Cox in a statement about Moore’s departure. “Economic development is like a relay race in perpetuity. The baton is continuously passed from one leader to the next. We have accomplished a great deal for Greater Memphis over the years and now is the right time to identify the next leader for the chamber.”
