Construction gets underway later this month on a 41,000-square-foot Mercedes-Benz dealership in Collierville that will include a 16,000-square-foot showroom and provide about 50 new jobs for the area.

Construction gets underway later this month on a 41,000-square-foot Mercedes-Benz dealership at 4651 S. Houston Levee Road.

It will be the Memphis area’s second Mercedes-Benz dealership – Mercedes-Benz of Memphis is at 5389 Poplar Ave. in East Memphis – and it’s being opened by a father and daughter who say they’ve done a significant amount of research toward making the Collierville location “a pleasant place to do business.”

The owners will be Dennis Higginbotham of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Trudy Higginbotham-Moody of Jackson, Miss. The location they’re opening, at 4651 S. Houston Levee Road near the Carriage Crossing lifestyle center, was chosen by Mercedes-Benz USA after extensive market research, part of the car company’s constant study of areas where it thinks it can grow its client base.

Construction will kick off after a groundbreaking ceremony July 10, and it’s expected to be open in the first quarter of 2014. The facility is a joint development and construction project between Kevin Vaughan of Township Development Services and Montgomery Martin Contractors, LLC, and it will offer and service new vehicles.

New jobs the dealership will provide for the area include positions for service personnel and certified service technicians, in addition to jobs in sales, finance, parts, detailing, accounting and customer service.

“We were honored they chose us to be the dealer there,” Higginbotham-Moody said. “This facility will be nice and new fresh and have all the latest technology and equipment we need to service vehicles quickly and efficiently. We’ll have the latest diagnostic equipment, and that makes a big difference.”

The Mercedes-Benz of Collierville facility will include a large service and parts department, which will also offer Saturday hours and weekday hours of operation. There also will be a showroom with a client lounge area, a finance center, an accounting office and a fitness center.

The facility will present a large selection of new vehicles, as well as the largest Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned inventory in the Memphis area, the owners said. In addition, the Collierville dealership will include a large selection of trade-ins at all price ranges, and a fleet of current-year Mercedes-Benz loaner vehicles will be on hand.

By opening in Collierville, the Higginbotham family is helping the carmaker unveil a location for the third time. The family also has award-winning Mercedes-Benz showrooms in Jackson, Miss., and in Myrtle Beach.

“We’ve proven to Mercedes-Benz we know how to treat customers great,” Higginbotham-Moody said. “They award their top 15 percent of dealers nationwide the Best of the Best award, and we consistently win that. We know how to treat our customers right, and we sell a large volume of cars – new Mercedes, pre-owned, all the way down to $5,000 trade-ins.”

The Higginbotham’s Mercedes-Benz of Jackson has won the carmaker’s Best of the Best award several times. It’s an honor that only goes to the top dealers in the country for being ranked at the top of customer satisfaction scores for both service and sales.
