December Mortgages Up 34 Percent

Much like the fourth quarter, December was also an especially strong period for local mortgage activity.

From December 2011 to December 2012, total mortgage volume climbed 34 percent. December 2012 mortgages totaled a little more than $94 million, up from the nearly $70 million in December 2011.

There were 599 mortgages made in December 2012, a 25 percent increase from the 480 in December 2011. The average mortgage amount was $157,047, up from the $145,737 in December 2011.

The top lenders in December 2012 were Community Mortgage Corp. with 54 mortgages, Magna Bank with 37 mortgages, Wells Fargo with 34 mortgages and Patriot Bank with 33 mortgages.
