Leadership Academy Rebrands as New Memphis Institute

By Andy Meek

The Leadership Academy has a new identity.

The leadership- and talent-focused organization has rebranded itself as the New Memphis Institute.

An email the group sent out late Thursday, Oct. 18, spelled out the reason for the change and how the group envisions itself as – and is striving to be – no less than the city’s “talent engine.”

“Thanks to you, our participants, alumni and community partners, our impact has extended well beyond the business of leadership,” the group wrote. “Now more than ever, Memphis needs talent. Our businesses need talent to thrive, our government needs talent to solve problems, our schools need talent to drive reform and our communities need talent to innovate and work for a better future.

“While our mission and programming will remain the same, the new name better represents the progress our programs and each of you bring about every day in our community. On behalf of the team and our board, thank you. With your help, we are forging a prosperous and vital new Memphis by recruiting, developing, activating and retaining talent.”

A celebration of the new identity is happening Friday at lunchtime – 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – at the Memphis Botanic Garden. It will include Corky’s BBQ and Muddy’s Cupcakes.

The group also now has a new Twitter presence, @theNewMemphis.
