NASHVILLE (AP) – State Rep. Matthew Hill said Tuesday he's taking two anti-abortion bills off notice and plans to replace them with new measures, possibly by the end of the week.

The proposals sponsored by the Jonesborough Republican would have required abortions to be performed in hospitals and increase the minimum medical malpractice liability for abortions.

They were to be heard in the House Health Subcommittee. The companion bills to both were awaiting a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Hill said the new legislation will address reporting requirements for the state Health Department and deal with the civil side of a proposal passed last year that allows criminal charges to be levied against a person in certain abortion cases.

Hill said his proposal would allow "families ... to have civil recourse."
