GOP Promotes Plan to Help Small Businesses
JIM ABRAMS | Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) – House Republican leaders are introducing a package of largely uncontroversial bills aimed at helping small businesses succeed and showing voters that Congress can on occasion move beyond its partisan divisions.
The six bills would loosen federal security regulations to make it easier for small businesses and entrepreneurs to raise capital and create jobs.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says the bills would "make sure America is once again a startup country."
The White House said it was encouraged by the GOP action, but Democrats also pointed out that the House has already passed four of the six bills in the package.
The two parties are far apart on how best to stimulate job growth in the country, with each accusing the other of contributing to the nation's high unemployment rate.
