Memphis Heart Clinic, Stern Cardiovascular Merge

The 14 physicians of Memphis Heart Clinic have joined Stern Cardiovascular Foundation, one of the region’s largest cardiology group practices.

Stern just over a year ago became part of Baptist Memorial Medical Group, a nonprofit medical group foundation affiliated with Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp., which includes more than 300 physicians representing 31 specialties in West Tennessee, Eastern Arkansas and North Mississippi.

The transition will be official March 1, and BMMG and Memphis Heart Clinic leadership say patients should expect it to be seamless.

“The opportunity with Baptist and the physicians and staff of Stern is extremely exciting for us and for patient care in Memphis and the Mid-South, said Dr. Joseph Samaha, Memphis Heart Clinic president.

He said his organization’s merger with West Clinic in 2007 allowed Memphis Heart to grow rapidly and brought professional management and security to the clinic.

“However, due to changes in cardiovascular medicine, the opportunity for Memphis Heart to partner with Stern and Baptist to create the most fully integrated premier cardiology program in the region made this merger the right decision,” Samaha said.

Stern Cardiovascular Foundation president Dr. Steven Gubin said the alignment with Memphis Heart Clinic will enable physicians to offer access to a larger team of cardiology specialists.

“This merger will expand opportunities to further develop expertise in advanced cardiac care and continue to engage in leading-edge cardiac research that will ultimately benefit our patients,” Gubin said.

Other recent BMMG acquisitions include Memphis Lung Physicians, Boston Baskin Cancer Group, Family Cancer Center, Integrity Oncology, Forest Hill Family Practice, Humphreys Family Practice Clinic, Memphis Internal Medicine and The Light Clinic.
