Clint Rosenblatt has co-founded a tech startup that he hopes can one day help companies streamline the process of picking and choosing prospective employees – a process that may currently involve a pile of paperwork that someone has to sort through.
The startup is CloudAptitude. The concept is simple: for anyone who’s looking for a job and who currently has a social media presence, be aware – the job interview has already started.
That’s thanks to services like CloudAptitude, which combs through publicly available Facebook and Twitter data to compile a basic report on a job candidate. CloudAptitude professionals would present that report to a company, and the company could use it to winnow the field of applicants more quickly than it otherwise could have.
That’s the basic idea, at any rate. CloudAptitude in essence is a pre-screening tool for businesses. Its reports measure things like friendliness, gregariousness, whether or not the person uses vulgarity and much more.
“We’re essentially trying to create a snapshot of each applicant before you even have to have any interaction with them, so you can quickly pick out who’s the best fit for your company’s culture, who might be a really smart hire and who might be a complete waste of time,” said Rosenblatt, CloudAptitude’s co-founder and CEO. “We’re trying to make that whole process more efficient.”
His company is clearly capitalizing on a fast-growing interest among hiring managers and related decision makers to tap social media data to get a feel for candidates that wasn’t as readily obtainable a decade ago. CNN cited a poll last year that noted almost 80 percent of hiring managers are using social media to check out job candidates.
CloudAptitude is aiming to take that task off their plate and, rather than troll this or that social network, to compile everything into a structured report that gives companies a clear picture.

The company has been given a boost by participating in the latest cohort of Seed Hatchery, a boot camp for entrepreneurs based in the EmergeMemphis building Downtown that provides startups with seed funding, mentorship and valuable training.
This article is fifth in a series of profiles The Daily News is running to provide a snapshot of all the CEOs behind the six ventures currently participating in the boot camp. Their ventures run the gamut from an educational video game company to a new e-payment service to an industrial safety promoter.
Rosenblatt was ready with an answer to any criticism about the company using social media entries and data that were produced before the person’s job application officially began.
“Our reports aren’t telling these hiring managers who to hire,” he said. “We’re not the determining factor. This only complements the process. We’re just trying to make it more efficient.
“I personally think, and this is an opinion, but when you click submit on that application, with everything that’s out in the news right now, you should be aware that the hiring manager is going to check out your social media presence.”
He also had plenty of praise for the valuable return he and CloudAptitude have gotten from Seed Hatchery.
“My favorite thing about being in the program is the fact that they always try to keep your product moving,” he said. “There’s always update checks to see where you are, what your obstacles are, and when these obstacles get brought up, they teach you and show you ways to get past them. There’s a lot of feedback that comes with the program, and there’s also been a ton of great speakers that have come. We’ve definitely learned a whole lot.”
