Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC will host a breakfast briefing forum titled “Hiring: Starting the Employment Relationship Off on the Right Note” Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Baker Donelson’s office at 165 Madison Ave., 20th floor. The Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence will hold a workshop Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at its office, 5100 Poplar Ave., suite 502. Rhodes College will host a discussion with Michael Robbins, senior adviser for the nonprofit partnerships at the U.S. Department of Education, Thursday at 6 p.m. in Frazier Jelke B on the Rhodes campus. Robbins will discuss “Partnerships to Turn Around Our Nation’s Lowest Performing Schools.” The event is free and open to the public.

The University of Memphis Herff College of Engineering will honor John A. Pafford at its 2011 Outstanding Alumnus at its annual awards dinner March 1 at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave. Tickets are $35 per person. Bumpus Harley-Davidson and Memphis Harley Owners Group will hold their annual Chili Cook-off and Men’s Dessert Bake-Off Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bumpus Harley-Davidson, 2160 Whitten Road. The cook-off will benefit the Pam Cobb Paralegal Scholarship Fund.
