CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee said she opposes having voters elect justices.

State lawmakers have discussed possibly changing the existing selection system.

The Cleveland Daily Banner reports that Lee in comments to a civic club Thursday said justices in the current system go into cases "with no preconceived judgment." She also said "there is no favoritism."

Supreme Court justices are voted on to be retained after terms are fulfilled.

Lee was chosen by then-Gov. Phil Bredesen in 2008 to join the state's highest court.
