The West Tennessee Solar Farm in Haywood County is connected to the Chickasaw Electric Cooperative, a milestone in the development of the solar array bordering Interstate 40 that will generate 4.5 megawatts of electricity.

The solar farm is connected to Chickasaw Electric’s Dancyville substation with nine miles of distribution line. Seven miles are existing line, with the remaining two miles being new line. The substation itself also underwent some upgrades.

All of the work was funded by a U.S. Energy Department grant.

From the substation, the electricity generated will be bought by the Tennessee Valley Authority for use on the TVA grid.

The solar array is expected to be completed early next year with a visitors’ center nearby to come later.
