MEMPHIS – FedEx projected its busiest day ever would be Monday, Dec. 12, with a projected 17 million shipments globally, almost double the usual daily amount.

It was not known by press time whether FedEx met the projection.

The previous record was 15.6 million shipments last Dec. 13.

FedEx said in a news release it has added 20,000 seasonal positions to handle the volume. Additionally, FedEx is offering additional shifts to employees around the country.

The company said its Christmas season shipping volume has grown about 75 percent since 2005.
