The Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence will present a workshop titled “Advocacy & Public Policy” Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Alliance office, 5100 Poplar Ave. Cost is $65 for members, $125 for nonmembers and $55 for those in the Program for Nonprofit Excellence. A TennCare Community Information Meeting will be held Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Ave.

The Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a public meeting Tueday at 5:30 p.m. at Germantown City Hall, 1930 Germantown Road. The meeting will be about the effects of the railroad that runs parallel to Southern Avenue. For more information, call 379-7840.

Eric Barnes will discuss and sign his debut novel, “Shimmer,” Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Davis-Kidd Booksellers, 387 N. Perkins Road Extended. Barnes is the publisher of The Daily News, The Memphis News and Chandler Reports.

The Memphis Public Library will continue its Experience Series program Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Ave. Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division and Tennessee Valley Authority will present “Experience: Energy Efficient Living.” For more information, call 415-2700.

The National Black MBA Association Memphis Chapter will collaborate with other chapters for a New Orleans train ride Aug. 7-9. Members will listen to speakers, interview for jobs and attend receptions and dinners on the train and in New Orleans. The deadline for deposit is Tuesday. Final payment is due July 15.
