SunTrust CEO to Also Become Chairman

ATLANTA (AP) - Regional bank SunTrust Banks Inc. said Friday James M. Wells III, the company's president and chief executive, will assume the role of chairman of the board at the company's annual meeting April 29.

Wells will take over for L. Phillip Humann, who was been executive chairman since January 2007.

Wells, 61, has served as president and chief executive since January 2007.

Humann, 62, served as SunTrust's chairman, president and CEO for nine years. He will remain with the company for one year as a consultant before retiring in 2009.
