NASHVILLE (AP) - Gov. Phil Bredesen acknowledges that there isn't much state money available for his plan to expand access to home care for the elderly and the disabled.
But he says that won't stop him from trying to restructure the way the health care industry addresses long-term home care.
In a speech to a legislative planning session sponsored by The Associated Press and the Tennessee Press Association on Thursday, Bredesen urged the nursing home industry to embrace growing calls for home-based care.
Bredesen said changes aren't likely to come quickly. But he says he hopes the state can lay the groundwork by changing the way TennCare, the state's expanded Medicaid program, addresses the issue.
